Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV
1159 AM PST Tue Jan 13 2026
.KEY MESSAGES...
* Gusty north winds will continue into the weekend down the Colorado
River Valley, mainly impacting recreation interests on Lake Mohave
and areas near Laughlin.
* High pressure building across the western US will bring a
prolonged period of warm temperatures and dry conditions.
&&
.DISCUSSION...through Monday.
A strong high pressure ridge will continue to dominate conditions
over the western United States through at least the first half of
next week. As a result of the tight pressure gradient associated
with this high, gusty, terrain-enhanced winds will persist down the
Colorado River Valley. The strongest winds are still expected from
the southern portions of Lake Mohave near Davis Dam, down to the
Needles area, where gusts up to 40 mph will be possible each day.
These winds will also create waves between 1 and 3 feet, and boaters
are advised to use extra caution while out on the lake and river.
Temperatures will continue to climb through the middle of the week
as the center of the high builds over the region. By Wednesday,
highs will average around 10 degrees above normal in most areas,
which for Las Vegas translates to highs topping out in the low 70s.
However, guidance values have been reduced in some sheltered
valleys, including Death Valley, as light winds and a temperature
inversion just above the surface should minimize heating and keep
readings several degrees below guidance values, though still above
seasonal norms. By the end of the week and into the weekend, the
ridge is expected to weaken, allowing temperatures to gradually
decrease; however, readings will still remain around 5 degrees above
normal well into next week.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 18Z Forecast Package...Light
winds are expected to follow typical diurnal directional patterns
through this evening, with speeds generally remaining 8 knots or
less. There is some disagreement among the models overnight, with
about 50 percent of the guidance indicating a turn to the northwest,
while the remainder keeps winds more southwesterly. Regardless of
direction, speeds are expected to remain light at less than 8 knots.
VFR conditions will prevail through Wednesday, with only a few high
clouds with bases AOA 20kft AGL at times.
For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 18Z Forecast Package...The main forecast
concern through the TAF period will continue to be gusty, terrain-
enhanced winds blowing down the Colorado River Valley. Gusts of 30
to 35 knots can be expected near KIFP this afternoon, while winds
near KEED will be a bit lighter. Elsewhere across the region, winds
will remain light, with directions following typical diurnal trends.
VFR conditions will prevail through Wednesday, with only a few high
clouds with bases AOA 20kft AGL at times.
&&
.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report
